26 Mar Reading : An important habit
In this blog, I would like to share why reading is important. At SNIS, reading is encouraged as an important habit, and I love reading because it is fun and relaxing. Now, imagine you are feeling exhausted, down, or stressed. All you need to do is grab your favourite book and read it. Reading is calming and lifts your spirit.
I always enjoy storybooks because they give me a warm hug in the form of writing. Currently, I am reading a book called Seven Wherewithal Way by Samantha-Ellen Bound. The book is all about three teens going into a magical realm in a mystical bus that is not even on Earth. Books like this are super interesting and spark a lot of curiosity in me. They make me feel like I am in a whole new world and make me wonder, “Where am I?”
Reading books helps me learn new vocabulary, which allows me to elaborate on writing such as persuasive and narrative writing, and even in this blog that I am writing. Moreover, most importantly, it helps me spell better. When I am writing or spelling, I can often get the spelling correct because reading helps me a lot, especially for my spell bee competition.
Reading also helps me improve my accent. For example, when I am doing a presentation in class, I can use better words like humongous and flabbergast
Thanks to reading, my creative thinking skills are promoted. While reading, I can visualize the entire scene in my mind, even though the visuals are already present in the book. I can imagine how the characters look, speak, and behave. It feels like a whole movie is playing in my mind, which helps to build creativity. This shows how reading helps us become thinkers.
At SNIS, reading makes me interested in learning new facts, which helps me develop knowledge about many things happening around us. I am able to understand the content and message given in a book, chapter, or paragraph clearly and summarize it in my own words while narrating. I can also paraphrase information using my own language and style while writing texts in my assessments. This helps us become knowledgeable learners.
I strongly suggest that reading is a very good habit because it keeps you away from screens and reduces screen time. It is very good for your brain and eyes. If you want to concentrate better and focus more, books are your ideal companions. While reading, I always feel jovial and ecstatic because everything around me feels calm.
Personally, I love books and treat them as my best friends forever. They are always with me, either in my bag or in my hand. I feel over the moon when I finish a book because I know I can start a new one. Every new book excites me, so I don’t have one favourite book—I love them all.
I insist that reading is very important for everyone because it helps improve writing and speaking skills. You don’t have to read one book in a day. You can take breaks and read in your free time whenever you like. Books take your mind away from stress and act like meditation, giving instant calmness.
Reading isn’t just a hobby, it’s a habit.
