16 Mar My Enriching Experiences of the Basketball Tournament @ SNIS
Hello everybody, I have a question for you: do you know the NBA? Well, let me answer that for you; the NBA is the National Basketball Association. Basketball is one of my favorite sports and it always keeps my energy levels high. This sport has given me confidence and courage. I thought I was in a dream when I saw my name on the basketball team list put up outside the PE room on the bulletin board. I practiced every day to learn different moves and tricks. My seniors also shared some tips. Our coach Mr. Alan always motivated me to give my best. Though I needed to work hard, I enjoyed playing the sport.
I am Alankrita Murugan, studying in the Grade 5 class at one of the best international schools in Bangalore, Sharanya Narayani International School. Being not only an IB School but also an IGCSE school in Bangalore, we have a good balance of both academics and sports in our school and that makes my school one of the best.
Now, let me come back to my experience in the tournament. This tournament, held under the auspices of International Schools Sports Organization (ISSO), an under 11 years basketball and football tournament, was successfully hosted by the best boarding school in Bangalore, SNIS. Finally, the big day arrived, and we had to play against many other schools. My event was the under 11 years basketball match and I had a lot of butterflies in my stomach to get into the basketball court for my first match. I also felt happy and excited, I didn’t know how to deal with that. But, thank God, I had my teammates and my coach to cheer me up and motivate me.
The inter-school basketball competition lasted for 2 days. SNIS, one of the top international schools in Bangalore, has won many matches and reached the finals. At the finals, we had a very tough competition. I could not be a part of the team because I was running a high temperature. This made me sad, but I still could cheer on my teammates. The other team was much stronger and more experienced than us. We lost the final game but we never felt sad. We embraced it with enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and sportiveness. As the quote says ‘Failure is your opportunity to revise your strategy.’ On the other hand, the boys won the finals and I guess I could connect as many of the students stayed in the boarding and got some extra practice time. As you all know, Sharanya Narayani International school, which is one of the best residential schools in Bangalore is ranked one of the top 10 boarding schools in India because of the countless opportunities and relentless motivation that the school offers to us. I thank my school and my teachers for organizing such an event to encourage sportsmanship that includes appreciating our victories and losses.
