05 Jan Beat That, Exam Stress!
Have you noticed how students these days have a hard time coping with their mental health? You would mostly observe this problem rearing its ugly head in middle school and it might head all the way to university. Exam season is particularly stressful as one gets excessively burnt out leaving no room for anything else in your life. Many people overlook the fact that exam stress is real and assume that the pressure is something they need to adapt to.
How do you know if you are experiencing this?
If you feel drained out and lacking your usual zest and energy to start your day or feel particularly anti-social, then it is probably stress eating you up and causing your inner turmoil to build up. It is not easy to overcome this mix of emotions. I am sure many students will be able to relate to this paragraph.
Puberty, schoolwork, projects and exams was definitely not the future you were imagining, but trust me, it will get better.
Don’t give up reading just yet. I have a few handy tips that might help you feel better.
Take a study break: Your next exam is coming up. Breathe! You will get through this. Take a break. I’m not saying procrastinate for 2 hours scrolling on reels on Instagram … instead listen to some calming music, take a nap, go outside or take a short walk. Your brain is going to be much more refreshed and you can continue studying with a fresh mind. These options sound much better than lying around scrolling on posts, don’t they?
Sleep: I’m sure most of you out here are studying till 12 AM. We’re not having that. Start studying early, then your beauty sleep’s going to thank you. Don’t be on an adrenaline rush simply because you can see the clock ticking for your upcoming Math exam. Sleep helps you recharge mentally and physically. Just because your brain never stops working, doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a break. Have 8 hours at least to sleep. You’re going to thank me later.
Motivation: You’ve lost that drive you had when you were starting out. Your brain feels dead and so do you. Give yourself a reward at the end of each study session, whether it be a pat on the back or a cup of hot cocoa. This gives you that feeling of success and accomplishment and that sense of pride. Your mental health is loving you for this decision.
Remember, you are going to be appreciated for your efforts. It’s completely alright to take a break. Just remember exam stress is just an obstacle in the way of your success. Your hard work is always going to fruition. So, don’t beat yourself up over this.
