23 Jul 5 Benefits of Asking Questions in the Classroom
Children are infinitely curious – they want to understand the world around them, how it all works, where it comes from, and how to interact with it. Questioning or inquiry is at the root of all learning and innovations made my humans. There are many benefits of asking questions in the classroom. Here are 5 of them:
- When a student is asking a subject-related question in class, it proves that he or she is very attentive in class. This encourages the teacher to teach better and with deeper insights into the subject.
- Students asking relevant questions tend to fill the gap that might have occurred while the teacher is teaching. Questioning can lead to a better exploration of the subject under consideration and this can lead to much better learning.
- Some students in the class might be a little hesitant to ask questions. This does not mean that they don’t have any doubts in their minds. So, those students who ask questions also voice the other students’ doubts and this leads to proper learning.
- Research shows that when you ask a question yourself, you are more likely to remember the information you receive. This means that questions improve recall.
- Questions make the brains of children work better and faster and this makes them better learners.
At SNIS, which is one of the best international schools in Bangalore, inquiry is at the heart of the learning process. SNIS is a Thinking School for Inquiring Minds. During every class, the students are encouraged to think, inquire, act and reflect. Students are given the assurance that they are welcome to ask questions without being worried that their questions are silly or unimportant…they know that there is no such thing as a dumb question.
